See, we weren’t always apartment investors. Heck, not even close to it. Growing up, we were raised by parents who worked long, long hours — and they taught us that, if you want to make money, you trade time for it. Unfortunately, like a lot of people and their parents, our parents made it to retirement without the savings they really deserved to have and we were on the path to do the same.
Before we got into apartment investing, both of us worked in the fashion industry for years and we were really, really good at it. In fact, we were so good at it that it was our only income stream, because we thought it was our purpose in life — and then our biggest client shut down their stores and everything came crashing down around us. We had been trading time for money, just like our parents had, and without the demand we needed, everything became obsolete.
